Description
We are currently looking for an experienced individual to join our team as our Dean of the School of Health Sciences. The Dean of School is a full-time academic administrator who provides academic oversight and leadership for all aspects of academic operations of the Health Sciences School. The role is split between two domains: partnering with the academic directors, program directors, and/or program coordinators to direct and manage the day-to-day activities involved in facilitating the delivery of academic programs, and developing rigorous, high-quality academic programs that meet current and emerging workforce needs. The primary supervisor is the Dean of Academic Affairs. Ana G. Mendez University serves a diverse student population, offering bilingual education to the community for traditional and non-traditional students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide leadership in revising existing academic programs and developing new academic programs and curricular maps in accordance with appropriate agency requirements.
2. Oversee and ensure the fulfillment of institutional and program-specific accreditation, licensing, and certification requirements, processes, and criteria.
3. Develop plans to assess academic program outcomes with the assessment director.
4. Lead and collaborate in professional accreditation processes for programs within the School of Allied Health Sciences.
5. Collaborate with academic and student services units to perform enrollment management activities, create program sequencing for the Scheduling Department, and track students' academic progress.
6. Establish new relationships with businesses, industry, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to support and develop programs that meet current and emerging workforce needs.
7. Coordinate with the practicum director and placement director, as applied, to create, secure, and monitor new placement sites for field experiences and assist in addressing student and placement issues.
8. Collaborate with the Library Services Director to identify resources/books/materials needed for courses and programs and communicate the needs to the Academic Dean for budgeting purposes.
9. Prepare and submit an annual budget petition aligning with the academic division's annual work plan and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance.
10. Work with the marketing department to promote programs and to ensure the accuracy of the information promoted.
11. Coordinate the online course content validation plan for the semester with the academic campus director and the development and instructional design unit.
12. Work with the Academic Campus Directors, Program Directors, and the Human Resources department to address faculty hiring needs and realize the appropriate recruiting activities.
13. Determine faculty qualification requirements for all programs and courses; advise Academic Campus Directors on faculty assignments if flexibility on qualification requirements if requested.
14. Identify faculty for dissertation, thesis, and/or comprehensive exam committees. Assign faculty to committee Chair roles; approve committee assignments.
15. Develop and serve as a resource for training the academics and student services area related to the program structure, content, and policies to enhance teaching effectiveness.
16. Collaborate with the Director of Faculty Evaluation and Development in the training of faculty.
17. Supervise faculty in research, proposals, and faculty development.
18. Evaluate prospective students and make decisions about student admissions.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
1. Doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher education in nursing OR a master’s degree in nursing with a doctorate in a related field such as administration, leadership, or education.
2. A minimum of four (4) years of experience in higher education administration in an academic capacity.
3. A minimum of the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as faculty.
4. Current licensure as an RN or APRN.
5. Experience with curriculum development and nursing accreditation (ACEN or CCNE).
6. Ability to express himself/herself effectively, verbally and in writing, in English and Spanish.
7. Excellent working knowledge of the interrelationships between academics, student services, administration, and campus operations.
8. Familiarity with current best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
9. Strong knowledge of national, state, and local requirements related to higher education administration, accreditation, and licensing.
10. Ability to work on non-traditional shifts, weekends, and afternoon and night shifts.
11. Availability to travel across the university campuses in Orlando, Tampa, South Florida, the Online Division, and any other location as required.
