Description
We are currently looking for a passionate and experienced individual to join our team as our Library Support Assistant. Works consist in supporting students and faculty in effectively accessing and using physical and digital library resources and equipment. Provide basic technical assistance for library systems, digital platforms, computer labs, and related technologies; facilitates circulation activities and user registration through integrated library systems; and facilitates remote access services. Assists with inventory and staff training to ensure efficient daily operations and high-quality user experience in a technology-enhanced academic environment. Ana G. Mendez University serves a diverse student population, offering bilingual education to the community for traditional and non-traditional students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assist and instruct users in effectively locating and using print and electronic resources, indexes, guides, bibliographic and reference tools, and the virtual library to support research and information literacy.
2. Provide reference support and services at the circulation desk and guide remote access to electronic resources.
3. Assist with tasks related to the institutional repository, including uploading, organizing, and verifying digital academic materials.
4. Provide reference support to guide users in developing their information and research skills, helping them identify appropriate resources and use research strategies effectively.
5. Provides basic technical support to users in the use of computer labs, library equipment, systems, digital platforms, and other technologies, with a focus on tasks directly related to library resources and services.
6. Registers and update patrons’ records in the Integrated Library System (ILS); e.g., Voyager, to enable the borrowing of library materials.
7. Retrieve the statistical data from the different services provided to the AGMU community.
8. Sort books, periodicals, and other items and place them in their designated areas.
9. Provides guidance and support to users in accessing printed and electronic information, including assistance with printing services, the basic use of library computers and software, and other appropriate resources.
10. Maintain and update circulation records, track and manage checkouts and returns, and organize library materials according to classification standards.
11. Assist students in the use of institutional writing guidelines.
12. Maintains library supplies and orders supplies as needed.
13. Maintains and correctly manages confidential information following FERPA regulations.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, or related field.
2. Two (2) years of experience in the university field in related functions.
3. Ability to express himself/herself effectively, verbally and in writing, in Spanish and English.
4. Excellent customer service skills required.
5. Knowledge and hands-on experience with integrated library systems (ILS), online databases, discovery tools, digital resource platforms, and standard computer applications used in academic or library settings.
6. Demonstrate mastery of business productivity technological tools and remote communication technologies to support their functions and offer physical and remote services.
7. Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
8. Ability to navigate the internet proficiently and utilize digital and print resources effectively to support research and information retrieval.
9. Available to work in non-traditional schedule including nights and weekends, according to the Campus service’s needs.
